Quaker Conference Centre and Retreat House

Charney Bassett, Wantage, Oxon, OX12 0EJ

Charney Manor, one of the oldest inhabited houses in Britain, is a place of tranquillity, where people come for reflection, renewal and retreat. Once the grange of the Benedictine abbey of Abingdon, the Manor is now owned and managed by Quakers (Religious Society of Friends). With its comfortable rooms and delightful grounds The Manor offers a warm welcome to groups throughout the year.

The Manor The Manor is available for conferences, group retreats and training events. These may be either for a single day or for several days with overnight accommodation for up to 36 people. Larger groups can be catered for by special arrangement. Equipment in the meeting rooms includes overhead projectors, screens, flipchart stands, TV and video recorder.
Gilletts The Gilletts, originally a pair of cottages in the grounds of Charney Manor, have been renovated to create a single self-catering unit for those wishing to make a retreat or to have a quiet break on an individual or small-group basis.
Programme As well as conferences and training events for religious and other groups, Charney Manor hosts its own programme which reflects current and emerging concerns among Quakers in Britain. Those of other denominations or none, are most welcome.
